I was wondering if there is a specific tool set that is required to do routine maintenance on a 06 BMW 325xi. I'm thinking of purchasing one but I heard a while back that you need a tool set by BMW to do repairs. By routine maintenance I mean, brakes, oil, spark plugs, filters, sensors, ect. Thanks in advance.Do you need a specific tool set to do work on BMW?Other than a good set of Sears Mechanics tool set (154pcs is the one I use), not really.
But certain jobs will be a lot easier with some common specific tools; for example, changing out the struts, you will need a spring compressor tool (free loan from Autozone).
...and you will need a big socket (not in your Sears tool set) to open the oil filter container.
But all these are commonly available from anywhere, not specifically from BMW.Do you need a specific tool set to do work on BMW?
No, tool sets have a range of variety in it. also everyset will suit pretty much every car. Just buy a middle range tools or better. I use cheaper ones where it let me down and cost me more $ because the attachment came off took me hours to get it out.Do you need a specific tool set to do work on BMW?If your going into heavy mechanical these newer BMWs require specialty tools for the year and model the list of special tools for that is long..Do you need a specific tool set to do work on BMW?
No, normal (metric) tools. There are a few torx fasteners here and there, but not on the normal stuff.Do you need a specific tool set to do work on BMW?For most normal stuff, no.
