the purchase and your ownership at the DMV.

If there's a bill of sale, bring it.

Most states will have you fill out an affidavit of fact to explain the situation. A bill of sale is also helpful. If your state requires inspections, they usually have a seperate sheet for vehicles that have never been registered in that state. Bring this to the DMV where you pay for registration.If it has not been registered in any US state for over 5-7 years, it should not be in the system and they will likely issue a title. If it is stolen or anything is fishy, you will find that out too.
