It runs really good, but I want a little more power. Also, I can't spend much more than 500 USD right now. It is completely stock right now. I read that I can upgrade the air intake and that will improve horsepower a little. Is that true? How much? How much would that cost? Any other suggestions? What can I do to my 2001 BMW 530i to improve its performance? While I don’t know a lot about the BMW cars some things anyone can do to improve performance with any newer car is to add a chip, module or programmer to the car to increase horsepower. This increase usually adjusts timing and other engine parameters to burn gasoline more efficiently and usually allows an increase in fuel economy as well. It looks like chips for this run between 300-500 bucks.
Here are some links to engine programmers and chips for your car:

For your cars intake, I would leave that stock and go to AutoZone and buy a higher flow K%26amp;N intake filter and put that into your stock intake box. A lot of people like to put high dollar intake “systems” into their cars put they usually suck in more hot air than the stock intake system. I looked that up for you too: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/featur… It’s about 45 dollars from them!
You could always take the car to an exhaust place and have a more performance exhaust put on. They can get pretty expensive but it might make the ol’ Beamer sound good too! Take care! What can I do to my 2001 BMW 530i to improve its performance?Agree about the intake- don't bother. If you go K%26amp;N filter- do NOT over oil it- as the oil WILL damage the air flow meter. For 5 bills your looking at a chip- either Dinan (smog legal) or TMS as previously stated. That's about ALL 500 will get you. Go to dinancars.com- they have performance graphs up- but KEEP IN MIND the readings are for the part installed WITH SOFTWARE!What can I do to my 2001 BMW 530i to improve its performance?Dinan is the foremost outfitter for any BMW car. From suspension to tuning you can't do any better then Dinan.
I have Dinan on my 525i and it is wicked. What can I do to my 2001 BMW 530i to improve its performance?
I would not touch the stock air intake system, I know its tempting. Its perfectly designed from the BMW engineer already. I would look into an engine chip for your computer system. Go to http://www.turnermotorsport.com
