I'm buyin a 1994 bmw and would like to put a new steering wheel on it. Is that possible? How much labour at a shop would that require? Can you put a new BMW steering wheel on an old BMW?Your '94 has a single-stage airbag, so if you want the airbag to work, you need another single stage airbag.
If your car is an E36 3-series, wheels/airbags from other 3-series prior to 4/99 will work, although the slip ring might require minor rewiring.
Note that you cannot easily retrofit a wheel with steering wheel controls for audio, etc. Those controls cannot be readily configured to work on an older car like yours.
If all you want is the look, then you have many choices, but you are assuming a risk by not having a working airbag, and you will need to wire a resistor into the circuit to prevent the airbag warning light in the dash cluster being on.Can you put a new BMW steering wheel on an old BMW?Yes you can, but i would be very careful if you do it yourself. I would recommend going to the site i always use to help me with my bmw questions. www.bimmerforums.com Everyone is pretty nice and answer your questions quickly. As for taking it to a shop, it really depends. I doubt the bmw dealership would put custom steering wheels on, but if you find a independent bmw person, they would tell you their prices.
