I would love to purchase the BMW 1 series but I want to know my options. What are the alternatives to this car

I have been trying to research for alternatives but nothing really popped up. The gas thing is also another issue and thats why I am having second thoughts with the BMW 1 series.I would love to purchase the BMW 1 series but I want to know my options. What are the alternatives to this carThere aren't many rear wheel drive cars in that price range. BMW has a unique combination of luxury and performance.

Closest I can think of would be an RX-8. The RX-8 has fantastic handling along with a usable rear seat. If you are worried about gas, you don't want an RX-8. EPA for the RX-8 is 16/22.

EPA for the 128i is 18/28. Much better.

I wouldn't consider the Mustang (no handling) or the Evo MR (no comfort) as direct alternatives. One magazine reviewer said "The Evo is just like a 135i with less sound-deadening material and its suspension completely welded together."

Have you looked at Mini? EPA for a Clubman S is 26/34!

Mini is not directly comparable to a 128i. I've driven both and they just aren't the same. BUT look at the gas mileage.

If you are going to start looking at front wheel drive cars, the Mini should be at the top of your list. Also take a look at the Audi A3.I would love to purchase the BMW 1 series but I want to know my options. What are the alternatives to this car
There really is no comparison to the BMW 1 series. It's a complete niche market. What you get for the price is amazing. Anything that competes with the build quality, performance and handling of the 1 series is $10-15,000 more. Even though you're getting a small package you still get the same engine options as a 3 series that means for a 135i ($34k) you get a 300hp twin turbo engine in something that weighs as much as my leg! The closest competitor, say a Mercedes SLK280 is $10,000 more has 72 less horsepower, 79 less torque, corners like a boat and has worse build quality. If you get the 128i the closest competitor in price is the RX-8 and Mustang ($4k less) and neither can compare in anyway to the BMW.

If this is the type of car you're looking for and the 1 series is in your price range then feel completely confident it's the best choice.

Gas? It'll take 91 octane minimum. The tank only holds 14 gallons so if regular gas is $4.00 and premium is $4.25 expect to pay $3.50 more per fill up. I don't understand why people nickel and dime giving your car the octane it requires. Buy one less latte from Starbucks for that 2 week period and you come out even, haha. Also you can expect to get 30 MPG on the highway so it ends up being very economical to drive.I would love to purchase the BMW 1 series but I want to know my options. What are the alternatives to this carGreat choice in car. Its worth the money and its a BMW. You wont worry about the gas when you have the car. Plus this level of a car you wont get this cheap.I would love to purchase the BMW 1 series but I want to know my options. What are the alternatives to this car
You could get a 3 series which isn't much more money and then you don't look like you only bought a 1 series because you can't afford anything nicer.I would love to purchase the BMW 1 series but I want to know my options. What are the alternatives to this caran alternative in my opinion would probably be the Infinity G37,Lexus IS 350, Mitso Evo X and Acura TL-S. Gas shouldn't be a problem as long as you dont floor it often.
