I am looking to buy a used BMW while in Italy. What kind of life can I expect out of the engine?How long does the typical BMW engine last? ie, average miles/kilometers on a BMW engine?I'll say you're wrong: I've got a 96 328iS with 140,000 miles on it. Zero problems, other than standard maintenance. No gasket issues, no oil leaks/burn, no compression issues.

Actually newer vehicles have greater life expectancies than those built even 10-15 years ago. The biggest issue you'll have is how many owners, what kind of mileage etc.How long does the typical BMW engine last? ie, average miles/kilometers on a BMW engine?

In the older years Miles were not an issue they really mostly never died even with abuse. They would get worn out and smoke a little and loose some power but they were hard to kill even if you tried. I have..



Nowadays its a crap shoot.. I've seen a lot of brand new cars where the engine blows in a few days to a week after they go into service from the dealership. Most BMW engines these days have a very limited lifespan compared to the older engines. Most newer engines have to get serious cylinder head repairs around the 150K mark. Some like the 2..5's and 2.8's and others go about every 50 to 80K.

A lot of BMW owners who have the cars I "ranked' on will go "NO WAY thats a lie my BMW is fine at 90K . But you never hear of them saying "yeah I had to get a head done on my 328 at 60K and again around 120K".( around thoes milages) People tend to get all worked up when seeing someone saying something about their model of car that's bad. But soon EVERYONE of those people will say "that BMWSGOD was right"
