I recently have started driving a BMW and I wanted to know the steps neccesary for driving in the steptronic mode. I know I can shift from M1 all the way up to M5 but I don't know when to shift or what number to shift to. The manual talks about upshifting and downshifting but I'm not sure what upshifting or downshifting is. Also, what is the difference between sport and manual mode? How do you drive a BMW 3 series in sports mode/ manual steptronic.?Ok well let's see if I can help you out. A is for automatic, the transmission shifts like it would in any other car. In S mode, the transmissions shifts you at a higher gear(The higher the RPM's the more power you'll have[until around 5800 RPM]), so you can drive more aggressively. M1 through M5 is selecting which gear and when you want to shift. Going off of the principles mentioned before, to save gas shift at around 2800 RPM, to drive quickly and swiftly shift at 5500 RPM. The computer won't let you do anything dangerous to the transmission(It won't let you rev to high nor will it let you shift to low).
Hope this helps.
