I drive all kinds of cars and conclude that nothing handles as well as BMW and Mercedes. Why id it impossible for any other car manufacturer to copy the design? O hear all the time that the secret is balance, but how hard can it be to balance weight in a car?Why can't any other car maker design cars that as good as BMW and Mercedes?Posh cars like BMW and Mercedes are made exclusively keeping each and every small aspects in mind and hence they are priced high.
Not all brands in market would get paid like a BMW MERC and few more to name. Some brands have become an ICON in market and hence their brand value is high. Not every car manufacturer can set a high price like the posh ones. Hence they compromise on many things. About copying the design MARKET always respects the original one.Why can't any other car maker design cars that as good as BMW and Mercedes?
Looking at the frequency of repair records on both of these cars, I am glad they don't copy BMW or Mercedes.
Now Benz (being the oldest infernal combustion powered car) can not help but be copied. But even this one time icon of reliability has fallen in long term engineering problems. Their advertising is geared towards drivers who are too stupid to know when they are sleeping, can't keep a safe stopping distance or even steer a car straight.
BMW's origin is rooted deep in copying British designs. In fact BMW never has had a concept of its own, while they do take some of the engineering to the "next level", the product is over priced and the prime design motivation is ego massaging of the buyer.
While I would love to own a Benz Gull wing roadster, it has been a long time sense either car maker has built something worth the extra money and problems that goes with either of these cars. Why can't any other car maker design cars that as good as BMW and Mercedes? You've obviously never seen a Cadillac CTS-V or some of the newer cars from Audi, Lexus or Accura. Mercedes is old school, and BMW is building cars with so many toys and electronic gadgets they have forgotten that the purpose of a car is to get from point A to point B.Why can't any other car maker design cars that as good as BMW and Mercedes?
It takes money for that kind of balance and technical prowess. Consumers must be able to compensate the company for building that kind of car.
No one will pay Chevy, Ford or Dodge 110,000(US) for one of their cars and someone has to make cars for the rest of us.Why can't any other car maker design cars that as good as BMW and Mercedes? You're biased. I owned a BMW and while it did handle well..... very well around curves and I would speed up to go around them, but my Volvo is/was way nicer.
