I am looking for a mechanic in the Seattle area who can replace my BMW 325 brakes - rotors, pads, sensor. I have the parts - just need the job done.
There are several who say they can do the job and rates range from $25/hr - $95/hr! Thats a wide range.
My questions :
Is the brake replacement job on a BMW very special? or can any mechanic who does brakes for other cars also do it for the BMW?
What are the things I should be careful about? So what kind of a mechanic should I go for?
Thanks in advance! What kind of a Mechanic is needed for replacing BMW 325 brakes? It is very easy to do it even easier than a Honda but mechanics make it a big deal because it is a BMW and they get afraid even from opening the hood or like to take advantageWhat kind of a Mechanic is needed for replacing BMW 325 brakes?
any mechanic can do the job .. depends if you want to spend the 95 an hour on one or 25 an hr.....
You can spend nothing on one and do it your-self if you have and take the time to just do it..... Not very complicated if you want to try the project yourself.. Just gets a little dirty because you will have to wash your hands ...... try the link below for insight into attempting the project yourself...
or just pick a reputable mechanic and hire him....What kind of a Mechanic is needed for replacing BMW 325 brakes?Go with an ASE certified mechanic this is a simple job, Most mechanics get paid $40.00 labor, A BMW is Just another Car to them, and brakes nothing special. I would get a reference or two if you are worried and The main this Ask to see SE certification, this certifies they have been updated on the latest, jobs, and been to school.ask for numbers of people unrelated to them.
Replacing the rotors and pads are easy to do and any mechanic should be able to do it. However, I replacing the Pad War Sensor esp. in the Rear requires some experience.
Perhaps others who have answered can tell you about their experience in changing the pad wear sensor and if any mechanic can do it.What kind of a Mechanic is needed for replacing BMW 325 brakes?Usually mechanics get scared when dealing with anything european such as a Bimmer... I'm surprised the $25/hr guy was willing to quote as most see the car and don't want to mess with it as it usually requires a special tool to retract the caliper piston on the rear and as the other fellow said.. if you are not used to working on ones with sensors and such, they will never attempt it....
I say better bet is a mechanic more specialized in the european cars (albet more expensive) it will be done right and won't break stuff or get scared and run in the middle of the job so to speakWhat kind of a Mechanic is needed for replacing BMW 325 brakes?
