BMW saying the ticking in their new engine in my car is from air in the engine doesnt make sense does it?New engine in an 04 BMW by BMW and they say it has air in the engine causing it to tick sound right? If it is a very new engine then it does take quite a long time for all of the air to be purged from the hydraulic cam followers, usually it settles down within about a hundred miles or so.
If it's still ticking after a couple of hundred miles and you are not confusing the fuel injector sound - take it back.New engine in an 04 BMW by BMW and they say it has air in the engine causing it to tick sound right?
air in the engine now thats a first for me and ive been working on cars 35 yrsNew engine in an 04 BMW by BMW and they say it has air in the engine causing it to tick sound right?if its 318i (4 cylinder) ya its normal,, i have one and i always hear this ticking sound..New engine in an 04 BMW by BMW and they say it has air in the engine causing it to tick sound right?
kind of stupid for them to say that because the engine runs by pulling air in. iv never worked on a bmw only domestics but you might need a valve adjustment if you can even do one. that will cause a rapid clicking as the rocker hit the valves. also the solenoids in the injectors click when they pulse. its probably just the way it runs my friends bmw has been doing it since the family owned the car since 89.New engine in an 04 BMW by BMW and they say it has air in the engine causing it to tick sound right?Sounds like complete BS to me...
more like a problem with the hydraulic lifters... or if it has tappets, they need adjusting.
They could have come up with a better excuse than air, because it appears they are full of it.New engine in an 04 BMW by BMW and they say it has air in the engine causing it to tick sound right?
Exactly how does air make a ticking sound? Every single engine has air in it. A properly built and tuned engine shouldn't make a ticking sound. It's probably nothing serious, but it does depend on what that ticking sound really is. Sounds like someone is feeding you a line of bs.
A ticking noise could be what is called "pinking" , or pre-ignition,common on older cars with distributor problems (faulty diaphragm, vacuum tube, ect), on modern engines it is caused by the engine management system advancing the ignition, or maybe the wrong grade of fuel. (not likely though!) Another possible cause is a broken piston ring, but the first route i'd go down is to Get an experienced mechanic to have a listen.
As for BMW saying it has air in it.....well it wouldn't run at all with out air in it! Were they more specific, ie fuel system? Inlet manifold?
