i recently came into possesion of my grandparents 2007 buick. My parents are allowing me to trade it in. I really want to get an 87' stick shift BMW..but my parents argue that its not going to be as safe as this 86' standard volvo i also had my eye on. Are they pretty much equal in stability? (in theory and asuming both cars have passed inspection and have a clean carfax report)How does the safty of a BMW compare with a volvo?I wouldn鈥檛 suggest you to buy a car from the mid 1980鈥檚 as it is over 20 years old. Given that you have a 2007 Buick, which is a fairly new car, even when GM isn鈥檛 known for high quality.
Volvo places a bit more emphasis in safety. How does the safty of a BMW compare with a volvo?I would look at how well the cars have been maintained. With cars that old, I would check for rust since rust weakens a car. A Volvo is a well-built car and generally quite stable. The problem with cars that old is that they do not have the airbags, etc, that newer cars have. I would go for the Volvo myself but then I have owned three so I am a bit biased. How does the safty of a BMW compare with a volvo? Why would you want to trade in a 2007 Buick for a 1986 Volvo?
With the safety upgrades that have been introduced on cars since the early 90's, your 2007 Buick is going to be about 10X safer than any 80-something BMW or Volvo. How does the safty of a BMW compare with a volvo?
BMW should handel better allowing you to avoid accidents while the volvo maybe better protecting in a crash but BMW is pretty safe.
