2000 bmw 750il no start when hot. What could cause this?

2000 bmw 750il starts up fine when cold.On short drives of less than 1 hour it starts up just fine.On drives of about 2 hours, it will not start. The car will start after about 2 hours. In the no start condition, the starter does not operate.2000 bmw 750il no start when hot. What could cause this? Before thinking of something exotic being wrong with the car start with the basics first.

Try using a different key the next time it does not want to start just to eliminate the possibility that it is an intermittently bad key. Then proceed as follows...

Perhaps the alternator is not charging properly, so a battery that has recovered its power after resting would start the engine. And a short drive would not have exhausted the battery power yet. But a long drive that has deeply discharged the battery will not crank the engine.

But if you have confirmed that the alternator is charging properly then

perhaps the battery is already wornout and does not accept charging

in the usual way (have the CCA checked at cold start and when hot by a battery shop).

If both alternator and battery are OK, then make sure that the cables from the battery to the starter are good, and that the solenoid gets a signal when trying to crank the engine. If yes, then the starter is bad and should be replaced.

If no, then the DME (engine computer) relay or ignition fuses needs to be looked at. Then if problem is still unresolved, hook up the vehicle to a BMW GT1 diagnostic machine to look for possible problems in the

EWS/DME combo, if the key is being recognized, if the starter is being released, etc.2000 bmw 750il no start when hot. What could cause this? Some cars have this happen. Happened on my 1992 Pontiac Grand Am. Either Didnt turn it off, or had to let it sit for like an hour... and it was NOT Overheating.

Something with the ignition WAS Overheating (was weird problem bu nonetheless a problem,) and also couldnt always feel it around the key.

Check entire Ignition system, something is getting hot in there and it wont even TRY to start. (Selective No Start, cold car = perfect. Also a warm one, after it sat for liek 45 minutes..)

Especially if it sputters on to start sometimes, or 'weakly starts when hot' that is another thing some cars do.2000 bmw 750il no start when hot. What could cause this?Sounds like a sticking solinoid or bendix on the quarter motor. Try to remove, clean up and replace.
