My BMW 318i SE wouldn't start when I went back to it the other day after shopping.I am told the timing chain has broken and the top half of the engine has probably got damage, they are investigating on Monday. How much will this cost if they have to do a top engine rebuild? the car is almost 6 years old and I have had it from new.I want the head office address to complain about it as its only done 32000 miles!Does anyone know BMW head office address,I live in UK, and how much a top engine rebuild costs? It is on their UK website:
Telephone: 0870 5050 160
or email: customer.service@bmw.co.uk
Good Luck...
P.S. You must have thought that by under using your car, you are treating it well. In fact machines NEEDS to be used to some minimum. Otherwise metal gets old and rusty and break. That is why a NYC taxi engine with 500K miles is in better condition than many other car engines with just 100K miles - but old.

A yellow light has turned on in BMW x5, a circle with 3 curved bars around the sides. What can it be?
Can this be a steering wheel problem?A yellow light has turned on in BMW x5, a circle with 3 curved bars around the sides. What can it be?It's a break pad warning light. Just happened about a year ago to me. There are sensors on your breakpads. This light indicates that it's time to go get new break pads!!A yellow light has turned on in BMW x5, a circle with 3 curved bars around the sides. What can it be?
That's the brake pad warning light. It is telling you that the the pads are worn down to almost the min thickness. You can drive about another 50~100 miles or so. But definitely get them changed.
Brake pad wear sensors are located on the front left side and rear right side from driver's pov.A yellow light has turned on in BMW x5, a circle with 3 curved bars around the sides. What can it be?I own a BMW and according to my manual, it's for the break pads. You need to have them checked and probably replaced soon.
i would check the manuel for shure first
but i think it is a coolant level indicator

What kind of Gas Mileage does a BMW e30 318 get?
I'm looking for something small and RWD but still pretty good on gas. I've heard that these get really good mileage (30-35) but the official numbers are saying that it's really bad. (17-22) What's the deal?
Also, approximatly how much would a full paint job be for a sedan? What kind of Gas Mileage does a BMW e30 318 get?I have an E30 325i. I get around 25 mpg on the freeway and I go around 80 mph. I also live in san diego where it is pretty hilly and that really effects mpg. You can get 30 easy as long as the engine is still tight. If you get one change out the fuel, air and oil filter. Oil change, new spark plugs, wires and distributor cap along with the O2 sensor and you will be good. Those parts online should only cost 300 dollars and all are easy enough to put in yourself.
You can also look into the 325 or 325e or 325es Those three models were all carburated and tuned for maximum fuel efficency. They only rev to about 4K so the engines are not as stressed as their higher strung cousins. I know people with 250K miles on them and they get around 35 MPG.
A paintjob for a daily driver, you can just get one of those Earl Sheib or Maaco deals. 500 dollars or so. It helps to do a lot of the prep yourself. When I get my car done next spring I will be removing all the trim and tape off all the glass along with removing all the lights and grill that way all the guys have to do is shoot it. It is really easy with an E30, like the bumper is only held on with 2 nuts! What kind of Gas Mileage does a BMW e30 318 get?it depends on the condition of the car. if its poorly maintained, then it won't get the same mileage as wen it was new. But they had great mileage new. as for the paint, it depends on the quality, and if you're trying to switch colors or just get a respray.ameren missouri

What can I do to modify my bmw 95 325i engine?
I just bought it, and im looking to give a little more juice and make it perform better. What can I do to modify my bmw 95 325i engine? While I agree with the above, there are a few small things you can do. From personal experience, a free-flow exhaust system with a re-machined or modified throttle body does wonders for the throttle response. It may not give you tons more HP or speed, but it will make you a second or so quicker off the line. Other than that, forced induction is an option, but very expensive. Good luck. What can I do to modify my bmw 95 325i engine?Honestly BMW does a pretty good job of tuning their car straight out of the factory. If you add CAI, Headers, tune, Cams, and exhaust maybe you can reach 15+hp. Unfortunately if you're looking for more than that you need to go the supercharger route. What can I do to modify my bmw 95 325i engine? What enzo said. To make a huge difference you will have to used forced induction. Some may suggest working on the suspension, but if you have the cash I'd go with FI.
Why is a 97 or 98 BMW m3 sedan faster then the coupe model of the same year?
I was just curious because all the car stat sites ive been to say that the sedan does 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds and the coupe only does it in 6.2 sec. I thought the engines were the same, but I may be wrong. If someone could tell me why, that would be great. I am just curious. Why is a 97 or 98 BMW m3 sedan faster then the coupe model of the same year?most coupes are heavier than sedan's and are lower to the ground and hug the ground betta than sedans,,,the coupes handle betta on turns and manuvering,,,maybe on-road can tell a differnt story,,,Why is a 97 or 98 BMW m3 sedan faster then the coupe model of the same year?probably weight. or maybe you saw the convertible times.
How much money do you have to save for a used BMW?
I am 15 years old and i am trying to find the right job that i can save money from so that i can help to pay for a used BMW. I want to have it for my birthday when I'm 18. If i give my parents every one of my paychecks then i hope by the time I'm 18 i would have been able to pay for about 1/3rd of it... maybe? What job do i need to have to achieve this and what kind of BMW do you think i can afford with the time frame i have? HELP!How much money do you have to save for a used BMW?I too am trying to save up for one of these beautiful cars, but its gonna take a while, just save up at least 20% of the car for the down payment, then finance it. Tell your parents to buy it, cause they have the good credit, so interest rates will be pretty low for them compared to someone without credit. I'm guessing the pays gonna be minimum so yea, depending on how many hours you work, you can probably get one by age 18. Get a 3 series, much better, avoid the 99. 00. and 01's cause they had transmission problems, and those will cost like 4-8k to fix up, no lie. Avoid the 7 series, very good looking car, but that hides the problems in the car. So 3 series, or 5 series is your best bet, or maybe a Z4. Like i said you got plenty of time to save up the cash. Save like allowances, lunch money your parents give you, the paychecks, and you'll be getting enough in no time. I started saving from 15, and I have like a ton of money already. Just save up some money for maintenance too, oil change is about 90 dollars, and they require it every 15k miles. And the cars gonna need the inspections 1 and 2, which are a hell lot of money, but they find stuff that will need to be replace to ensure the longativity of the car. Avoid cars above 100k miles, and if you can try to go for the manuals, they last longer. Autos are good but don't last as long. How much money do you have to save for a used BMW?dude just check autotrader. mid 90s BMW would prolly be around 10-12G or something. How much money do you have to save for a used BMW?if u want a new one, u can forget about it. i'm a huge BMW fan, and i had a bmw as my first car 4 years ago, i had a 1997 528i.. got it for 13 grand, car was 7 years old at the time... it had full options... really cool car... these days you can get one for 6000-10000 a very nice one.. but i gotta tell you that u will spend money on maintenance... unless you know how to fix it yourself... if you go to dealer for any minor thing its gonna hurt... REally bad... believe me... i had to replace my engine because of a thermostat problem, and blew the whole engine... i had to pay 6000 grand to rapair... Not at the dealer... at the dealer it would be over 15000 not to mention control arms (1200), alternator, driveshaft, brakes, bearings... If you want it... get a used 5 series for example, like 7000 should get u a nice one. they look awesome and handle amazing, but gotta be a little car oriented so you can maintain. buy parts online for cheap, and learn how to do it yourself,.... parts are really cheap these day, but the problem is labor.. but hey, you only have one life... so if you could do it... go for it... u can also finance one under 10000 and its gonna be under 200 bucks a month. don't need to be a doctor to have one. good luck

Does any one know how to fix a BMW power window that has come out of its track in the door pannel?
The car door was slammed really hard by some one and it knocked the window out of place so now it won't roll up. My car is a 1992 325i bmw.Does any one know how to fix a BMW power window that has come out of its track in the door pannel? Please do not try anything on your own. It needs a specially trained mechanic to do the job. So take your car to the nearest BMW trained mechanic and get this fixed. I know it is expensive but that is the way it is.Does any one know how to fix a BMW power window that has come out of its track in the door pannel?sounds like you will need to have the window regulator replaced. If you have never done it before.....take it to the dealer.cracker barrel locations
Can you put a new BMW steering wheel on an old BMW?
I'm buyin a 1994 bmw and would like to put a new steering wheel on it. Is that possible? How much labour at a shop would that require? Can you put a new BMW steering wheel on an old BMW?Your '94 has a single-stage airbag, so if you want the airbag to work, you need another single stage airbag.
If your car is an E36 3-series, wheels/airbags from other 3-series prior to 4/99 will work, although the slip ring might require minor rewiring.
Note that you cannot easily retrofit a wheel with steering wheel controls for audio, etc. Those controls cannot be readily configured to work on an older car like yours.
If all you want is the look, then you have many choices, but you are assuming a risk by not having a working airbag, and you will need to wire a resistor into the circuit to prevent the airbag warning light in the dash cluster being on.Can you put a new BMW steering wheel on an old BMW?Yes you can, but i would be very careful if you do it yourself. I would recommend going to the site i always use to help me with my bmw questions. www.bimmerforums.com Everyone is pretty nice and answer your questions quickly. As for taking it to a shop, it really depends. I doubt the bmw dealership would put custom steering wheels on, but if you find a independent bmw person, they would tell you their prices.

Can I get accessory rims to come installed on a custom ordered BMW 128i?
I really like the style 216 rims and instead of the car coming with the stock wheels and the 216 rims in boxes can I arrange for the car to come with the 216's already on? Or is that an ABSOLUTELY no-no?? Because if I have to pay a little extra for that to happen I will. Thanks. Can I get accessory rims to come installed on a custom ordered BMW 128i?The dealer can arrange that, but you cannot just order the car with style 216, they will not come on the car. When you order the car, have the dealer order the style 216 wheels and new tires, this way, when the car arrives from Germany they can just throw them on.Can I get accessory rims to come installed on a custom ordered BMW 128i?Yep, you'll be able to get that done. It'll cost you though, but then you can sell the 128i alloys to the dealer or to a different buyer. Just talk to the dealer, unless the car has already been delivered it shouldn't be a problem.

How much would it cost to change the engine in my 2006 bmw 325I?
I have a little side cash and wanted to see if I could take the 215 hp engine and add something around 350-400 hp. How much would it cost approximately, including labor? How much would it cost to change the engine in my 2006 bmw 325I?Wow replacing an engine in a 3 series is dumb. They can easily cost you more then $7,000-$10,000. Honestly sell your car and get something faster. The Average 2006 BMW 325i sedan sells for $15,500-$18,000 depending on the mileage and condition. Extra BMW packages in your car may be subject to an increase or change in price. The fastest sedan in this segement is the 2007-2010 Infiniti G35-G37 Sedan which bost 328 HP standard. Other then that if you wanted something faster in the Luxury compact sedan segement there is always the "High Performance" devision like the Mercedes C-class AMG, BMW M3 or the Audi S4, they are over priced so optiong for those cars would most likley mean getting a new engine would be cheaper. How much would it cost to change the engine in my 2006 bmw 325I?

You could always replace it with the 333hp E46 M3 S54 engine, they cost around $6000 used for a low-mileage engine, and would end up costing upwards of $10,000 for engine+labor.
We replaced the Engine on our 2005 Audi A4 with an RS4 engine, and it ended up costing over $11,000.How much would it cost to change the engine in my 2006 bmw 325I?I'd look for a wrecked (hit in the rear or side) turbo 335i which would give you 300HP to start with and then do some mods that could easily increase the power to 350 or more. Dinan and other have relatively inexpensive mods such as cold air intake and chips that can bring the horsepower to the 350 mark with relative ease and cost effectiveness. I'd agree that the cost with labor will still be in the area of $7-10K. YOu could also look for an M3 engine that would put you at the 400 HP mark fasterbutt the transition would be more difficult as it's not going to be a drop in deal either.
If it were my money, which it's not, I'd think of trading the 2006 for a newer model and investing the money into the higher horsepower model already put together with some sort of warranty perhaps.
Good luck. How much would it cost to change the engine in my 2006 bmw 325I?

How does BMW feel differently when driving between 3 series and 5?
i have a 2002 BMW 325i but im wondering how the 5-series feel when drving? is it pretty close to the 3-series?
im talking about the ones from 2004 to now.. not the old ones. How does BMW feel differently when driving between 3 series and 5?I have owned a 1998 328is, and I currently have a 2000 M5. There is quite a difference! The 3 series really feels like a small, compact vehicle, but not too small. It feels like you are in complete control of the vehicle at all times, more of a true driving experiance.
The M5 feels like a giant, street legal rocket! It is slightly more comfortable, and the big V8 gives the impression of being slower than the straight 6 found in the 3 series, when driving normally around town. I'm not saying the 5 series feels sluggish, but the engines are very different, and the m5 just feels like a "big car".
Both are extraordinarily fun to drive, it just comes down to preference.
Go test drive a five series, if you already have a BMW, tell them you're considering "upgrading"!How does BMW feel differently when driving between 3 series and 5?5 series feels more like a luxury car, 3 series has a sportier suspension/you feel the road more. How does BMW feel differently when driving between 3 series and 5?a 3 is a girl car and isn't as luxurious as a 5 series ... I love the 5 series because it's sporty and not a tiny girl carHow does BMW feel differently when driving between 3 series and 5?
The 3 series will have more of a sporty feel to it. In my eyes the 3 series is a great car but more of a toy. The 5 series however is the middle car. Its between the 3 series and 7 series flagship of BMW''s. The 5 series will drive sporty to give you that fun sports car feeling but offer more room, comfort, more options and a much more luxurious feeling. The 5 series would be way more comfortable to on longer drives and better if you have kids. Again still offering the feel of a sports car behind the wheel to keep you feeling like your in a sports car. The 5 series has a little more power and speed to it as well as GREAT handling. Personally I would go for a nice 5 series but again the 3 series is great as well!
Good Luck!

You could always replace it with the 333hp E46 M3 S54 engine, they cost around $6000 used for a low-mileage engine, and would end up costing upwards of $10,000 for engine+labor.

Good Luck!

Is there any way to upgrade the stereo on a '99 BMW 528i without tearing up the dashboard?
The factory stereo with CD changer sounds OK but not great. Is there any way to upgrade it? An equalizer would be nice. Any suggestions? Is there any way to upgrade the stereo on a '99 BMW 528i without tearing up the dashboard?I believe Scosche makes a kit for that car. You will have to get new amplifiers too and either use crossover caps or a good electronic crossover because that car is equipped with a separate amp which has a channel for every speaker in the car. Count all your speakers, mids, tweeters, etc. BMW's often have 2 or 3 in each front door, 1 or 2 beside the rear seat, and two to four on the rear shelf. If you have 14 speakers, there is a 14-channel amp in the trunk with separate active crossovers. You would either need a lot of amplifiers and a good active crossover or run 2 or 3-way passive crossover networks.
In most cases, a single 5 or 6-channel amp will work. You then need to get 2 or 3-way passive crossovers (as needed) to run the front and rear mids/tweeters.
Your amp will be set to high-pass on the front and rear 4 channels and low-pass to the sub channel. About 80-Hz on the crossover point would be good.online puzzle games

How do I find the battery under the seat of a 1999 BMW 525i?

Anyone ever install or own a BMW Z4 with subwoofers in the trunk?
I have on 04' Z4 and would love to put some subs in the trunk to fill out the sound. I have never put a system in a convertible and am worried it will not produce good sound with the top up or down. The factory system pretty much rocks as is, but on certain songs with lower bass tracks the factory woofers can't produce. I have looked at both end of the spectums as far as what to put in: was looking at 2 10 inch JL audio W6 V2, with amps, crossovers, etc. I have also looked at just throwing in a 10' amplified bazooka tube. Any thoughts?Anyone ever install or own a BMW Z4 with subwoofers in the trunk?Hey man forget the amp tube. All you need for a car like that is 1 10" t1 sub in a 3 foot box , with a 700 watt amp. Thats sure to be setting off car alarms as you roll by.
Why doesn't my stereo on my BMW Z3 work after changing the battery?
my Z is a 1999 with 52,000 miles. The battery recently needed to be replaced. The code does not bring my stereo system back to life even though the bmw dealership says it is the correct code. they don't have an answer why it isn't working. any suggestions? Why doesn't my stereo on my BMW Z3 work after changing the battery?Who replaced you battery? If the terminals were accidentally reversed - even for a second, it could fry some electronics in the car; including the radio.
Check your radio manual, there usually is a slip of paper called "radio certificate" with the serial number and code for your radio. But if it still refuses to work, don't worry. You are in the "right season" to be looking for a new radio... your BMW radio is quite basic compared to even sub-$200 aftermarket radios.
With Black Friday coming up, this might be a good time to look at a new radio - since your Z3 uses a standard DIN sized radio.
Crutchfield.com just sent me an email... they have a JVC HD-radio equipped head unit for $159 that will definitely fit your car! (See link) It is also compatible to both XM and Sirius satellite radio (with an add-on module).
I've also listed 2 other interesting choices for you. All name brand manufacturers.
These guys will also supply you with the correct wiring harness for your Z3 to make the installation a plug-and-play process.
Good luck! Why doesn't my stereo on my BMW Z3 work after changing the battery?Well maybe the radio has been changed before? Pulling out the radio and checking the serial number will end the question if the code is the right code. Its been a long time since I entered a code incorrectly and I am not sure if its the same system as the older BMW radios. But if you enter the code wrong 3 times you have to leave the car on for 2 hours I think in order for the radio to accept another input. Why doesn't my stereo on my BMW Z3 work after changing the battery?Needs codes reset!.

Just talk to the dealer, unless the car has already been delivered it shouldn't be a problem.boggle online

Why is a 97 or 98 BMW m3 sedan faster then the coupe model of the same year? They probably started out as the same engine but the M3 has all the performance parts and the coupe doesn't, thus it being faster.

About 80-Hz on the crossover point would be good.

Has anyone heard of a batterey charger for BmW Moterbike, that takes up to 4 days to trickle charge?
my boss claims that is how to charge his bike batterey up, but i have never heard of this before and think he is wrong. Can anyone help. The bike is BMW RS1100.Has anyone heard of a batterey charger for BmW Moterbike, that takes up to 4 days to trickle charge?Put it this way, the higher the charge the shorter life of the battery. A battery stuck in the corner and left to charge on one amp will last a lot longer than one that regularly uses say a twenty amp charge. You can make any charger last four days simply by turning the charge down. For example there are 96 hours in four days so if you battery was a 96 amper hour battery it would take four days on a one amp chargeHas anyone heard of a batterey charger for BmW Moterbike, that takes up to 4 days to trickle charge?
What you want is a "Battery Tender" which can be left hooked up any time you're not riding it. It decides when to charge, trickle charge, or do nothing.
If your bike has a "Powerlet" socket you can get an adapter for it.Has anyone heard of a batterey charger for BmW Moterbike, that takes up to 4 days to trickle charge?Slambob is correct. BMWs used to come with their version of a battery tender
I got mine at the honda shop. I hook up my beemer to it if I'm not going to be riding for over a week.Has anyone heard of a batterey charger for BmW Moterbike, that takes up to 4 days to trickle charge?
Your boss is correct: There are many 'trickle chargers' for bikes, boats %26amp; lawnmowers that have a very slow charge - many can safely be left connected for months on end to maintain the condition of the battery.
The smaller 'leisure' batteries are usually gel filled %26amp; don't like high rate chargers.Has anyone heard of a batterey charger for BmW Moterbike, that takes up to 4 days to trickle charge? You can buy these from halfords too !!

Good Luck!wheels and tires

Has anyone taken runflat tires off a BMW 645ci?What did you replace them with?
I have a BMW 645ci with the OEM Goodyear Eagle GSA Runflats, these tires cost $400 each, trying to find them cheaper,or trying to change them to non-runflats,has anyone changed them,if so what's te pro's and cons of changing?Has anyone taken runflat tires off a BMW 645ci?What did you replace them with?replace with runflats could void your insurance if you change to normal tiresHas anyone taken runflat tires off a BMW 645ci?What did you replace them with? The six series is a sports coupe. Why would you buy such a car and then expect the tires to be cheap?
If you read your manual it tells you not to use anything other than run flat.Has anyone taken runflat tires off a BMW 645ci?What did you replace them with? You don't have to keep run flat tires. You do have to replace them with the same performance level tires, ie speed rating etc. If you're a spirited driver I would try Pirelli P-Zero tires. If you live where it's going to get cold and possibly snow this winter get their winter offering, the Sotto Zero.
They are soft compound tires and will wear more quickly than harder tires. Michelin Pilot Sport tires are an excellent choice. as are Dunlop Winter Sport M-3s. I believe these are right at $200 per tire.Has anyone taken runflat tires off a BMW 645ci?What did you replace them with?
You can replace them with just about anything that will fit, however, I don't suggest it becuase the cars with run flat tires don't come with a spare tire. So if you ever do run over something that will cause a flat you are stuck. You have no tools to jack up the car to get it off the rim, and you have no spare tire to put on. If you leave the run flats on if you do hit something you can drive a couple hundred miles at 50 miles per hour. Basically enough time to get you out of harms way and get a new tire on.

How do vortex generators work on aircraft wings or BMW roofs?
When an aircraft flies at high angles of attack, the airflow over the wing can become detached, or it stops following the shape of the wing. When this happens, the lift produced by the wing will suddenly and rapidly decrease, and the wing is said to be stalled. When the flow separates from the wing, it usually means the air is moving too slowly, or there isn't enough energy in the flow to keep it moving. Since vortices are energetic, they can be used to put energy back into the flow to keep it moving in the desired direction. This is what vortex generators are designed to do.
Vortex generators are simply small rectangular plates that stick out above the wing surface. They look like tiny little wings jutting up perpendicular to the wing itself. As air moves past them, vortices are created off the tips of the generators just like the trailing vortices mentioned earlier. These vortices interact with the rest of the air moving over the wing to speed it up and help reduce the possibility of separation.
I think on the BMW it is just an antenna. We have no probs with BMW roofs stalling. :)How do vortex generators work on aircraft wings or BMW roofs?Vortex generators mix the air on the upper surface of the wing, therefore preventing airflow separation at various speeds and aircraft attitudes. They actually produce a little bit of drag to prevent greater turbulence. Greater turbulence would inhibit airflow to reach the control surfaces, therefore diminishing aircraft control.
On the roof of a BMW, I can only assume they "mix" the air so the air reaches the rear spoiler more effectively, hence creating down force on the rear spoiler. However, you would have to go very fast for those vortex generators to make any real difference.

How do I deactivate the alarm on my 1992 BMW 320i?
My car's alarm system is active at the moment and my remote ran out of battery and can't cancel the alarm. I disconnected the buzzer to stop the noise but the alarm system is still ongoing. I can say that because the LED is constantly on. My battery will get drained. What shall I do? How do I deactivate the alarm on my 1992 BMW 320i?Look at the old battery that came out of the remote. It's probably 1.5 volts. Get a AA battery and with someone else's help, hold a small wire against the + of the battery and another against the - and then hold the other ends to where the + and - go inside the remote. Then press the button to turn it off. It will be tricky, but will work. If it's 3 volts then hold two batteries together and then use the + of one battery and the - of the other. But even if it was 3 volts, I bet that 1.5 volts would work at least once.
One other option is that some alarms will deactivate once the key is in the ignition and turned on.How do I deactivate the alarm on my 1992 BMW 320i?Can you put a new battery in the remote ?How do I deactivate the alarm on my 1992 BMW 320i?get a new battery

What is the widest profile tire that can placed on the back of a 745li bmw?
I don't want to muck up the manufacturers recommendations, yet I would like even more stability than I have now. Any suggetions? What is the widest profile tire that can placed on the back of a 745li bmw?The 745Li was a model made from 2002-2005. The manufacturer specs for optional sized tires are as follows:
BMW 745li Original Equipment Front 245/45-19
BMW 745li Original Equipment Rear 275/40-19
This works for all models from 2002-2005.
It is wise to stick with the mfr. specs for max tire sizes, BMW's as the German engineers have already figured out the optimal performance/size tires for your car. Additionally, your owners manual will also reflect what I've shared.
It will look very nice I did the same with my 530i. Good luck! What is the widest profile tire that can placed on the back of a 745li bmw? Why?
No bigger than 245's... You'll be excessive past that.

BMW 328 1998 heavily shakes sometime when on high way, what could be the problem?
It shakes as if something is going to fall apart. It looks very dangerous. Showed to the mechanic and he says nothing is wrong with it. Any one has any such problem or any ideas? It has new tires which were replaced to correctly the problem but did not do much. The shakes appears on high speeds lets say once in 50 miles drive. It also wobbles at +60mph not all the time though.Any ideas will be appreciated. The car is otherwise in fine running condition.BMW 328 1998 heavily shakes sometime when on high way, what could be the problem?Take it to a different mechanic! Check bimrs.org to find a good independent BMW mechanic near you.
There are a myriad of possibilities:
Bent wheels
Blown shock absorber(s)
Failed suspension bushing(s)
Ball joint failure
Broken rear differential mount
etc, etc.
It's also possible that your new tyres were not balanced properly, or one has a defect, such as a slipped internal belt.
Long story short, get it to a competent mechanic; there are too many potential causes for specific diagnosis without seeing and/or driving the car.BMW 328 1998 heavily shakes sometime when on high way, what could be the problem?
It needs a front end alignment.BMW 328 1998 heavily shakes sometime when on high way, what could be the problem?my car, a mercedez, had that problem. i just had the tires realligned and it fixed it perfectly.BMW 328 1998 heavily shakes sometime when on high way, what could be the problem?
This could be a number of things, but one thing for sure, ITS NOT NOTHING!!!!!!.........
If you front wheels are not balanced or need aligning, this will cause the car to 'wobble' but you would feels this more via the steering wheel.
It could also be the wish bone bushes as when these start to perish, they don't support the suspension arm which also keeps the wheels Parallel.BMW 328 1998 heavily shakes sometime when on high way, what could be the problem?I read your question afew days back with nothing to add, but I just had a thought. it is a intermitten problem not being constant. have your calipers checked, a sticking caliper on one wheel could give reaction that your are feeling. it is easy to test the theory too, drive the car on the highway and tapthe brakes. or keep this in mind and see if the wobbles/shakes start right after you touch the brake.

What do the numbers of the BMW cars mean like you know the?
750Li, 750i, 550i, 135i, 328i, 528i. 528xi ,M3, M5, M6, X1 etc. its not the size of the engine obviously,or CC size displacement then what do all those different letter %26amp; number symbols mean for the BMW vehicles? What do the numbers of the BMW cars mean like you know the?The first # is the series model. The 7 series, the 5 series and the 3 series, for example. The 3 series are generally smaller, lighter, 5 series, the mid sized and the 7 series a bit longer and bigger.
The 50 as in 750 or the 28 as in 328 refer "roughly" to the engine size. In other words, it's "roughly" a 5.0 litre engine, but it may be 4.8L, for example. For instance the 740i was a bit less at 3,982 cc, but it's right there... A 735i/L is roughly 3,430 cc.
The M usually refers to specially tuned "sport" type editions, while the x (at the end) usually refers to special suspension as in for snow. The L at the end refers to a "longer" wheel base that typical "i" models, usually just a few inches. You may also run across a "d" at the end referring to diesel versions.
Their Z series are the tiny, sporty roadsters which are about the size of a Mazda Miata, in my judgment.
The X series if I remember correctly is their SUV series which was mounted on their 5 series frames/dimensions. So imagine a beefy 5 series under the hood.
There is a nice writeup on wikipedia below:What do the numbers of the BMW cars mean like you know the?
ITs just to classify and it is to be more specific.
Suppose u had sumone saying "i have a BMW"...u wouldnt know which one.
But if sumone said "I have the 750Li BMW" then u would probably know which BMW it is(if u know about BMW's)
Hope i helped.:)What do the numbers of the BMW cars mean like you know the?im not entirely sure myself but i think its just the model make so that its easier to catergorise, instaed of just saying BMW and getting confused which one.
i think m3 m5 m6 is mark 3 mark 5 etc...
i could be wrong but that makes more sense.
hoped it helped a little xWhat do the numbers of the BMW cars mean like you know the?
The first number is the chassis series--basically the size of the car. The second 2 numbers are the engine displacement in liters (just put a decimal point between the numbers.) So a 328 is a 3 series chassis with a 2.8 liter engine. M cars are specially tuned versions of various models done by the BMW factory. X is the SUV chassis. The letters after the numbers refer to special features that differentiate that model from others. 750Li is a 7 series with a 5 liter engine, a lengthened chassis and fuel injection. What do the numbers of the BMW cars mean like you know the?OK, bear with me because the explaination I was given is sooooooo easy.
750i means the BMW is a series 7 with 5.0 litre v8 injected..
550i means the BMW is a series 5 with 5.0 litre v8 injected.
328i means the BMW is a series 3 with 2.8 litre 6 cylinder injected.
525 means the BMW is a series 5 with 2.5 litre 6 cylinder non-injected(525 has no i following it, therefore, non-injected.)
Then the M3, M5 etc is the GT or Racing Version if you like of a Series 3 and a Series 5.
What do the numbers of the BMW cars mean like you know the?
The numbers use to mean displacement. Not anymore. Anytime you see the ///M badge, Think performance. Anytime you see the xi or now as BMW calls it the Xdrive badge it means that car is equipped with BMW's Xdrive intelligent all wheel drive system.
The Numbers just mean what series car(i.e Audi's A4, A6,A8.

How much would a full brembo brake conversion cost on a BMW 328i? Is it worth it?
I think the brakes are already very good on this car but was wondering if it would be worth changing them to full brembo? What sort of cost would there be? I guess they could save my life if I have to stop very quickly... is this correct? How much would a full brembo brake conversion cost on a BMW 328i? Is it worth it?All in all about £1500 for the front brake conversion.I would advise you keep your brake setup as it is and get Brembo max front discs and EBC greenstuff brake pads, they are excellent and a noticeable improvement over standard BMW brakes.
The cost for the max discs and greenstuff pads will be about £150 for the front. How much would a full brembo brake conversion cost on a BMW 328i? Is it worth it?
It would be very expensive (in the 1,000s of dollars) and would not be worth it. The only way it would be worth it, is if you have a ton of performance upgrades that make your car go faster than it did when stock, and even then, the stock brakes would probably hold up fine. How much would a full brembo brake conversion cost on a BMW 328i? What is the best car audi a5 coupe special addition or bmw 5 grand turismo ?
What is the best car if they were both standard and i want to know which is the coolest and the pretty est the best design and which one would last longer and which interior is the best and tell me what are your thoughts???????????What is the best car audi a5 coupe special addition or bmw 5 grand turismo ?I prefer the A5 but the GT is also a bit special. The GT looks unusual but when you have a close look it is quite versatile, especially the boot design. I find the A5 Coupe looks more sporting and sleek and is one of those cars that gives me a thrill when I see it in my mirror.

I just bought a BMW 330i and the service engine soon light came on what does that usually mean?
The car has 75,000 miles on it and has a clean carfax report with services indicated on it. The car is mint, no accidents, and seems to run excellent.I just bought a BMW 330i and the service engine soon light came on what does that usually mean?Ok, seriously, it's NOT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. This light as quoted from the asker is the "service engine soon light."
It means you are due for regularly scheduled maintenance. Things such as an oil change, filter changes, other fluid changes, checking the condition of the suspension, etc.
Nothing actually 'has' to be done but the car is recommending you preform these tasks.
There is an exact listing of all that should to be done at a given mileage in your owners manual.I just bought a BMW 330i and the service engine soon light came on what does that usually mean?
It is usually just a small problem, nothing to sweat, but it is still worth going to the dealer to check what it is. Thier great cars and worth keeping till around 130000 miles.I just bought a BMW 330i and the service engine soon light came on what does that usually mean?the light requires a code reader to tell you what it means. It is an indication something is wrong with the emission system. Take it back, if you just bought it, and have them read the codse and fix it.
It is possible that the gas cap isn't on properly. This happens frequently. The fuel system is kept at a higher pressure, for performance, and the car knows when it's not properly pressurized. It is possible the service engine soon light it letting you know that's the case.I just bought a BMW 330i and the service engine soon light came on what does that usually mean?Take it to any local auto store and they will scan the computer and tell you the codes and what needs to be fixed/replaced..... it could be anything..... sensors ect.....I just bought a BMW 330i and the service engine soon light came on what does that usually mean?
75k miles? , if I had to guess I'd say an O2 sensor , but it could be a number of things , have it scanned to see what exactly it is.
This light indicates that a problem was detected by the car's computer. This car has other status lights for normal oil/maintenance.
You will need to have it scanned for the diagnostic code. A local auto parts store may or may not have a scan tool that will work on your car. Many generic scan tools cannot read BMW extended diagnostic codes, they only read the standard emissions codes. You may be forced to go to a BMW dealer.
Depending on the year of the 330, even 3rd party BMW specific tools such as Peake Research may not work. BMW changed the communications method, and MANY 2004 models and later are unreadable by a Peake tool, such as my 2004 330cic. Peake is working on this issue, but buying a scan tool may be useless for your car.I just bought a BMW 330i and the service engine soon light came on what does that usually mean?
Check your gas cap, if it's loose the service engine light will come on. This is the most common reason. It will also come on if you leave the car on while getting gas. It will reset by its self after a bit.
it means that you need to service the engine soon.

I was going to pick up spares at a recycling yard, but I could not find the same colored set. Would another colored set work ? Can they interchange ?
Where can I get injector information online ?Can anyone explain the technical differences between the different colored BMW fuel injectors?most manufactures use color to identify cfm output on injectors. if you install injectors with the wrong color code you may either end up with a rich condition or a lean condition. stay within factory spec's. hope this helps. Can anyone explain the technical differences between the different colored BMW fuel injectors? The color of the plastic top on the injector has nothing to do with what the injector flows or ohms, this is only holds true for GM 220 TBI injectors. If you want to be sure you get the right injectors for your BMW check out www.fuelinjector.citymaker.com they have a complete online catalog and only sell OE injectors, your wasting your time looking for injectors in a junk yard. the hardest thing on a electronic injector is sitting. they become stuck open and can even rust inside and then they are junk.

What is the real-world difference between a pre-2007 BMW M3 and the 335i in terms of vehicle dynamics?
Several dyno tests have revealed that the 335i twin-turbo motor puts down more HP %26amp; Torque than the M3 (inline-6) engine. I wonder what the difference will be like in real-life. From a price perspective, the 335i seems more economically rational.
I don't have time to do test drives, but would appreciate if others could chime in based on experience behind the wheel. What is the real-world difference between a pre-2007 BMW M3 and the 335i in terms of vehicle dynamics?90% of BMW owners today are posers, and perhaps 10% are interested in the real drive and performance.
If you do not have time for a test drive, I would suggest it really doesn't matter, you just want to pose with it on the street in any event.
regards, hard driving-owner past %26amp; present of supercharged cars, fan of forced induction (former owner of 2 BMW's).What is the real-world difference between a pre-2007 BMW M3 and the 335i in terms of vehicle dynamics? So, you want to know the difference between an E46 ///M3 and a E90/92 335i correct?
Well, the the new 335i's twin turbos are a nice addition for an already solid inline-six, but the fact the the E46 ///M3's engine is N/A is what draws more enthusiasts compared to the E9X 335i's.
Either car you choose, you ill be happy. What is the real-world difference between a pre-2007 BMW M3 and the 335i in terms of vehicle dynamics?Good Question they are just about equal in power out put, I would like to know more too.

I want to buy a BMW 2001 325 or 330 and i was wondering how good are these cars at around 100k miles?
I also was wondering how hard is it to find a good machine shop for bmw enginesI want to buy a BMW 2001 325 or 330 and i was wondering how good are these cars at around 100k miles?I still have my 2001 330 and it now has120k miles. Sadly it is not as cheap to repair as most Asian cars. And at certain intervals in its lifespan you really have to contend with costly repairs. But when properly maintained it is a joy to drive and its handling and performance is way above what other cars can give.
Going back to your original question, have the car checked by a real BMW technician not a shade-tree pretender. Invest in about $100. to $150. to get a proper evaluation of the car's condition. Also check the previous owner's maintenance and repair records (including accident records if possible).
At 100k miles it is recommended that the spark plugs %26amp; 02 sensors be replaced. But there are a lot of things that can go wrong at this point like the DSC module, steering and coolant hoses, coolant expansion tank, etc. etc.
And once you buy the car it is safer to have a full service done on its operating fluids like engine oil, transmission and differential oils. Have the fuel filter replaced too.
So as a rule, if you do not have the patience or the money to support buying an old BMW then do not do it.I want to buy a BMW 2001 325 or 330 and i was wondering how good are these cars at around 100k miles?machine shop for BMW engines? why on EARTH would you say that??
They're solid cars.
Some of BMW's most solid cars I find were built around that year.
E46's are GREAT cars... just check for suspension bushings, water pump leaking, thermostat leaking, etc.. all the basics..
But a machine shop... It's not often I hear that word and BMW together... yikes... machine shop makes me think of fixing grandpa's tractor.I want to buy a BMW 2001 325 or 330 and i was wondering how good are these cars at around 100k miles?Stay away. They are a money pit, that old. Getting work done on it is costly. Parts alone expensive.
I had a 318i 2000 paid 12000 in 2004 and by 18months later is was rusting away. Doors, rockers, fenders. sold it for 3500.

How do you like the BMW 3 series coupe?
I am thinking about purchasing a BMW 328i or 335i Coupe. Does anyone own one of these vehicles? Do you recommend the 328i or 335i and why? How much are the maintenance costs/oil changes and such? Thanks! How do you like the BMW 3 series coupe? You did not mention if buying new or used, or what year...
The 328 is much more reliable, engine wise, but the twin turbo is twice as fun to drive. It is seriously quick car for a daily driver. If you are going for the twin turbo, get stick if not forget it.
Unless you have plenty of extra to PROPERLY MAINTAIN the car then don't buy it. I see way to many people driving BMW's and Mercs when they just cannot afford it, the car make look nice from the outside(that is until you get it on the lift and look at mess underneath), a poorly maintained BMW makes you look like a tool to your mechanic. Honestly, I have seen more e90's that are just junk, because they have not been maintained right, than any other car except for maybe the e65... I have seen e36's with 400,000 miles and running like new... good luck doing that with an e90 that you did not buy new (and properly maintain)
I am going to be brutally honest with you. I work on these cars for a living, and last year our shop had more BMW'S (04 AND NEWER) come in tow trucks, then actually drove in...
The whole BMW first 4 year maintenance package thing the dealer gives when you buy a new car is BULLSHIT, there are several pending lawsuits because of this...
BE VERY CAREFUL buying a used BMW, if these cars have been not maintained properly, you are buying a serious headache. The thing is with these cars is they are sensitive, and one problem can quickly lead to 100 other problems if it is not fixed right, quickly. Reliability is so so, at best.. with these models. ALSO some of these just have weird problems, electrical and otherwise, not even related to maintenance... Approach with caution.
Of course I get a thumbs down for being honest and happening to work in the business.. Look up the class action lawsuit I am referring to. Used BMW's especially the e90 series, especially the first model year (2004) are notorious for being total pieces OF ****. The only thing worse would be an 04 745, you don't even want to know how often those break down...
I just do not understand why people give me a thumbs down when I am being totally honest. I know the 3 series if one the best cars ever made - in general-- but 04/05 is a really bad year and the quality of BMW has gone downhill BIG TIME since 04/05. The e46 was the last REAL 3 SERIES! And e39 vs e60, in terms of quality, reliability, is a JOKE!
Get a Mercedes-Benz, there is no comparison. (the difference between BMW AND MERC factory service interval is that BMW 4 YEAR PLAN RUINS THESE CARS)Or, if you like the sporty feel of the Bimmer go with AUDI, they drive even sportier than BMWS and break down just as much, maybe even a bit more .. only diff. is parts are a bit more on the Audi. If you really want a sweet BMW for a daily driver, that is plenty of car but not too much car (like m3), and is OK on gas, but a JOY to drive, and not to bad maintenance wise, GET AN THE LAST MODEL YEAR E46 330ci with the 6 speed SMG!
that's my rant, now i wait for 100 thumbs down. How do you like the BMW 3 series coupe?
If you properly maintain it then you should be fine. I own an 09 x5 and it came with 4 years 50k warranty when it was brand new. Thank god it came with a warranty otherwise out of pocket I would have to pay for my ac blower going bad, or my rear electronic trunk, so these cars do have some electrical problems I'm not going to lie but that doesn't stop me from loving this brand. Go for a 335i coupe and you won't regret it.How do you like the BMW 3 series coupe?I have a 2003 BMW XI AWD black on black and it only cost me 12k with 40k miles. I love it. If I had the money to get a NEW BMW I would go for the 335Ci or Cic or 5 series only. The 328i's series although powerful look like female vehicles... sorry man...The lines are just too feminine for me. GET AN M3!! The world is gonna end soon! How do you like the BMW 3 series coupe?
GET A 335I ITS WAY BETTER AND THERE IS A SAYING IF U CAN GET A BUN U CAN GET THE BUTTER ON IT SAME THING WITH THE BMW IF U CAN OWN A BMW THEN YOU SHOULD OWN THE MAINTENANCE. I JUST DID AN OIL CHANGE IN MY 2005 BMW 545I AND I PAYED $120 AT BMW SERVICEHow do you like the BMW 3 series coupe?Incredible cars. Car and driver consistently picks the 3 series in it top ten, year after year, for over 18 years straight. There is no other model, or make, that can make that claim.

Can I turn a BMW 325Ci Coupe into Convertible in a shop or something?
You can do about anything you want to modify a car, they are made of metal for the most part.
You can weld on, bolt on, cut off however much you really feel neccesary.
With that being said, it would be far easier just to sell your coupe and buy a convertible, or if you have the cash just buy a convertible.
Quality in the job done here is elemental, if it's not done right your car won't drive the same. The roof kinda holds your car together and your going to lose a handful of trunk space.
Convertibles are already engineered to be with out a roof.
This would be a fairly pricey endevor and comes with the possiblity of a mistake that would need to be fixed costing even more. Can I turn a BMW 325Ci Coupe into Convertible in a shop or something?Yes... but why? I just bought a 1984 BMW 318i, I want to know what people might think is the best engine choice for this model?
I bought a 1984 318i BMW, and i LOVE it. I hope to restore it, but I don't know where to start. I know a little bit about cars but not as much as I wish did, so any advince would be very helpful. However the main question I have is, How big of an engine will fit in this frame?I just bought a 1984 BMW 318i, I want to know what people might think is the best engine choice for this model?A new engine int he car is going to be worth more than the car alone...that cars not worth restoring since it holds no value on the car market...it might in about 10 years or so, but right now, its really not worth it...and btw, it would have to be a fairly small engine because it had a very small, boxy frame
I bought a 2000 BMW 328i and when i start the car up there is a thing that lights up it looks like a orange?

Is it necessary to replace the head bolts when changing a head gasket on an 87 BMW 325is?
I know that most repair sites recommend it, but is it always necessary. I didn't have a problem with the head gasket failing, the timing belt broke and now I need to remove the head to replace some valves that got bent. Also, being that it's an aluminum head, should I have it decked before I put it back on?Is it necessary to replace the head bolts when changing a head gasket on an 87 BMW 325is?I always replace the head bolts on a BMW. You have an Aluminum head and after a thousand miles of heating and cooling, expanding and contracting, the head bolts are stressed. Also consider that the piston slammed some valves up into the head and that also further stressed the bolts.
On BMW's it is a rule for me to always get the heat tested %26amp; head decked (planned). You have an aluminum head bolted to a forged iron block, there is a difference between the way these 2 metals heat up and cool down, which causes allot of problems.
I have changed to many BMW heads to take a chance. I do not like doing things twice, because it makes it twice as expensive.
I have seen other reuse head bolts without an issue. How is your luck?Is it necessary to replace the head bolts when changing a head gasket on an 87 BMW 325is?
I may have a thumbs down or more but I know all to much about torque to yield bolts and that I said below is correct. The chances your engine has torque to yield bolts is high.
depends on what bolts the engine has now. You can look into the oil filler cap and see the head bolts, if they look like they take an allen wrench you're OK, otherwise replace them. A new set is like 45 bucks with shipping and I get new ones all the time just because I hate cleaning them, sometimes the bolts and head hols are so gunned up its hard to get the bolts out. So I just cut them in half.Is it necessary to replace the head bolts when changing a head gasket on an 87 BMW 325is?You should always replace them, cheap insurance. I have had to change plenty of broken reused head bolts. What's worse: Buying a head bolt set? OR Breaking one and getting stuck somewhere plus having to do it all over again.
Word of advise, buy a set of head bolts.
Have the head checked, definatly, and ALWAYS fit new head bolts they stretch, make sure they go back in sequence, if the gasket goes the head doesnt always distort unless the head bolts have been removed out of sequence. Is it necessary to replace the head bolts when changing a head gasket on an 87 BMW 325is?i try to write the answers your problem in my blog http://www.mystructuredsettlement.co.cc you can see any problem in my blog or in my business blog http://www.mysecuredloan.co.ccIs it necessary to replace the head bolts when changing a head gasket on an 87 BMW 325is?

How do I get my angel lights on my 95 bmw 325i back working ?
My angel lights are out on the drivers side how do I replace them and the passenger side is pretty dim helpppppp! How do I get my angel lights on my 95 bmw 325i back working ?Your angel eyes kit may be dim and also not working because of the wiring, but it's most likely because you bought some bad or cheap parts.
The best way to ensure that they'll work and have a long-lasting brightness is to get a new pair of CCFL halos (or LED, whichever your kit takes)
But it'd be best to just get a new, better kit with LEDs.

What BMW is best for a woman to drive?
I'm a female and I want to buy a car and I'm leaning more towards buying a bmw. What I have in mind is a bmw x3 or a bmw 135i ...... the only reason I don't think I can get the 135i is because it's not good for winter. 335i is hot for a woman. SUV's are too big for women. What BMW is best for a woman to drive?the new 3 series coupe. (07-'11) make sure you get x-drive which is beams awd system. I dont think you really need all that power from the twin turbo (35) just go for a 328i coupe x drive, its fast and its a strong engine. n btw get it in white with cinnamon interior....they look hottt
a 3 series with awd.
dont forget to get the navigation package. What BMW is best for a woman to drive? No, the X3 are horrible little cars they look stupid cos they are just the cheaper version of the X5! Go for a sedan, much nicer. I'd go bigger than the 135i.
Again, if your budget only allows for the cheapest BMW, I'd pick another car make. The cheapest version of any car make is always "cheap and nasty" and sends out the signal "I couldn't afford a REAL one" so I settled for this. What BMW is best for a woman to drive?
spare us we dont need another woman on the road, cuz you will end up doing 50 on a 70 mph road and treat it as if its another kitchen!
any 3 series Xi would be perfectWhat BMW is best for a woman to drive?
Z3 total chick BMW..travel trailers

What do I need to do to make my 1998 BMW 528i compatible for a turbocharger?
I would like to add some horsepower to my car since it is only a 2.8 liter in a midsized sedan. I have found turbocharger kits online, but they are all running around six grand. Is there a cheaper way to do this? Can I simply but a turbocharger and put it in or is it a complicated process that needs other modifications? What do I need to do to make my 1998 BMW 528i compatible for a turbocharger? You would be much better off with a BMW M-3 from 1997 - 2000 model. They cost more than a 528i, but they have 100 more horse power than the 528i. The M-5 will be much more expensive, much bigger and mayby 400 HP with a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission. A turbo charger requires very accurate control of the pressures developed in a smaller engine. The M-3 should have about 333 HP. A turbo running at 6000 to 10,000 RPM probably cannot stand the internal stresses that will be required with a 528i. If you have a free turbo with all ductwork and accessories, maybe it will be a good learning vehicle. But you will also need a spare car to go places like to work or school, plus insurance on two cars. What do I need to do to make my 1998 BMW 528i compatible for a turbocharger? Why not buy an M5?
Probably wind up being cheaper with less problems in the long run...What do I need to do to make my 1998 BMW 528i compatible for a turbocharger? It's not just a bolt on part, they engine will require professional tuning, as well as installation of new computer chips. What do I need to do to make my 1998 BMW 528i compatible for a turbocharger?
Forget it, even in Europe we don't get involved with a project like this. Change the car!
